Make It Blue – Cyanotype Workshop
Cyanotype – also known as blueprint printing – is one of the oldest and most accessible photographic fine-art printing processes. Using just a few basic materials, light, and a spirit of experimentation, it produces images in a distinctive deep Prussian blue: sometimes crisp and graphic, sometimes soft and poetic – always handmade and each print a unique original.
In this half-day workshop, you will gain all the knowledge you need to get started right away – both during the workshop and later at home. You will learn the cyanotype process from the ground up, including those small but crucial details that make the difference between “nice” and “wow.”
What You Will Learn
Concise theory session
History of cyanotype, materials, basic chemistry and safety, common mistakes – and how to avoid them.
Mixing the solution
Preparing the chemicals together, with practical advice on storage, shelf life and efficient workflow.
Coating like a professional
Even coating techniques, drying, test strips, paper selection and suitable alternative surfaces.
Exposure & development
Finding the right exposure times, washing, oxidation and post-treatment – for consistent, repeatable results.
Fine-tuning & experimentation
Controlling density and contrast, rescue strategies for prints that are too flat or too dark, and ideas for series, variations and personal projects.
At the end of the day, you will take home your own cyanotype prints – along with the knowledge to set up a small cyanotype workspace at home.
Included
Paper, brushes and chemicals (provided by the organizer)
